Shaft Clamps for Robotics & 3D Printing

Robotics & 3D Printing shaft clamp application

Robotic mechanisms, 3D printers and compact motion assemblies use guide shafts and lead screws where low mass, small envelopes and repeatable setup positions can matter. A clamp collar can serve as a removable stop or reference when the surrounding moving parts have enough clearance.

In these systems, outside diameter can matter as much as bore. Check moving carriages, belt paths, cable routing, end bearings and frame members, and make sure the screw head does not enter a travel zone that was clear before the collar was installed.

Where the Collar Can Be Used

Use Buyer Check
Lead-screw reference Confirm nut travel and end-support clearance.
Guide-shaft stop Check carriage position at full stroke.
Setup locator Consider how often the collar must be loosened and reset.
Prototype/test rig Document the final position once the mechanism is validated.

Why a Single-Split Collar Is Practical

Robotics and compact motion systems benefit from a collar that can be repositioned without permanently marking a single point on a guide shaft or lead-screw support. This is useful in prototype cells, small axes and adjustment points where travel limits or setup references may change during commissioning.

Moving envelopes deserve special attention in compact equipment. Verify that the collar body and screw head stay clear of carriages, belts, cable chains, frames and end supports throughout the complete motion range, including homing and service positions.

Recommended Selection Path

Step Buyer Check
1 Measure the shaft at the intended collar position.
2 Choose the matching EP-SCS bore and compare outside diameter/width with the available envelope.
3 Confirm the clamp screw can be reached in the assembled machine.
4 State any keyway, non-standard bore, impact or environmental requirement.
5 Send a drawing/photo when the surrounding machine makes the fit difficult to explain in text.

RFQ Information for Robotics & 3D Printing

For robotics or 3D-printing applications, send the guide-shaft or support-shaft diameter, target EP-SCS model, quantity and the available radial/axial envelope. A photo at full travel or a simple motion sketch is especially useful when clearance is tight.
